In light of International Women's Day 2021, Singapore-based women's advocacy group AWARE collaborated with ad agency BBH Singapore to honour and celebrate Singaporean female trailblazers through their campaign, #ShesAnIcon.
Selected as someone who has left an indelible mark within the local fashion industry, Stolen's founder and designer Elyn Wong was part of the pantheon of women illustrated into stickers available for use on social media and messaging apps. The quote "Don't be popular. Be purposeful." accompanies her sticker - a reminder of her ethos to create with purpose. The tagline also serves as a reminder to women to not fall into the trap of popularity - something that is exceptionally common nowadays on social media.
She joins other Singaporean female icons like the first female nominated Member of Parliament Kanwaljit Soin and the Singapore Woman Everest Team, who pushed themselves through the most extreme physical conditions. The narratives of women are underrepresented despite the vast contributions we have made to and for society. Kudos to AWARE and BBH Singapore for promoting and honouring the local community of local female icons.
